Your rights

The law is on your side

Cleaning up your credit means fixing what's wrong, not hiding what's true. Here's what the law gives every person.

Sources: the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA), and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (consumerfinance.gov).

Your reports are free

Get your reports from all three credit bureaus for free at AnnualCreditReport.com. That's the official site.

Mistakes must be checked

When you dispute something, the credit bureau usually has 30 days to look into it (45 in some cases). If it's wrong, or can't be proven, it must be fixed or taken off.

True information can stay

Most true negative items can stay for up to 7 years, and some bankruptcies for up to 10. Nobody can legally remove true, up-to-date information.

You can do it yourself, for free

You always have the right to dispute mistakes with the credit bureaus yourself, at no cost. Getting help is your choice.

You're protected when you hire help

By law, a credit repair company can't charge you before the work is done, must give you a written contract, and must let you cancel within 3 business days.

Credit building

What makes your score go up

Here's what FICO says matters most, so you know where your effort pays off.

35%

Paying on time

The biggest part. Even one payment that's 30 days late can hurt for years.

30%

How much you owe

Keep card balances low compared with your limits.

15%

How long you've had credit

Older accounts help. Think twice before closing your oldest card.

10%

New credit

Only apply for what you need. Lots of applications at once can lower a score.

10%

Types of credit

Having both cards and loans can help a little, over time.

General weights for the population as a whole, as published by FICO. Each person's score depends on their own report, and other models (like VantageScore) weigh things differently.

Our promise

Real credit repair is careful, honest and legal. Here's what Koala Capital will never do.

  • Promise you a score, a result or a removal
  • Tell you to use any number other than your own Social Security number
  • Dispute things that are true, or ask you to say anything untrue
  • Sell you shortcuts or "credit hacks"

Questions

Frequently asked

How long does credit recovery take?

Each round of disputes usually takes 30 to 45 days to get answers, and most people need a few rounds. Building good habits takes months. Every file is different, so nobody honest can promise a timeline or a result.

Will checking my credit hurt my score?

No. Looking at your own reports never lowers your score.

Can late payments come off my report?

A late payment that's wrong (wrong date, wrong amount, or not yours) can be disputed and must be fixed. A late payment that's true can stay for up to 7 years, but its effect shrinks over time, and some lenders will consider a polite "goodwill" request.

What's a good credit score?

On the FICO scale of 300 to 850, scores from 670 to 739 are considered good, and 740 and up very good. Getting above 700 is a great goal for most people.

Is my information safe?

Yes. Your file is in a private, encrypted account. Only you and our team can see it.
